From the Roots

An Informational Series on Education Unions in Wisconsin

Overview:
"From the Roots" is a socially conscious design series created to advocate for education labor unions in Wisconsin. It aims to combat the declining support for unions—particularly in the wake of Act 10—by educating residents, workers, and activists on the importance of collective bargaining and labor rights.

Purpose:
The project seeks to inform the public about anti-union legislation and highlight the vital role unions play in supporting educators and the broader workforce. Rooted in research and community engagement, it provides clear, accessible, and visually compelling materials that spark dialogue and promote solidarity.

Audience:
Wisconsin workers, educators, and pro-union advocates—especially those affected by Act 10 and interested in labor reform.

Visual Concept:
The metaphor of roots represents unions as the foundational element of worker strength and community growth. This is contrasted with a red axe symbolizing the damaging effects of Act 10. Design choices—including stark black and white imagery with bleeding red and blue highlights—emphasize urgency and resistance.

Deliverables:

  • Posters: Bold, high-contrast visuals for physical spaces

  • Social Media Posts: Shareable and animated to reach younger audiences

  • Website: A hub for deeper information, event calendars, and direct engagement
